Fourwinds is a delightful 2 bed bungalow basking peacefully within a stone’s throw of a sandy beach on the southern shores of Luce Bay. This Drummore property is situated in Dumfries & Galloway, commonly regarded as Scotland’s best kept secret and voted the holiday destination of the year 2015/16 by BBC Countryfile Magazine.
Dominated by the sea, this unspoilt, rural peninsula of rolling fields, wild flowers and abundant hedgerows, enjoys wide, open skies and enchanting sunrises and sunsets. At the Mull of Galloway (Scotland’s most southerly point) you can see the coastlines of Scotland, England, Ireland and the Isle of Man.
This unique corner of Scotland offers plenty of exciting experiences: coastal walks by cliffs, rocks and sandy coves, visits to at least 6 different botanical gardens which, because the local climate is warmed by the Gulf Stream, feature exotic plants usually grown in more temperate zones. Only a short drive away are the Mull of Galloway lighthouse, the RSPB site, Logan Fishpond and the atmospheric fishing villages on the West side of Portpatrick and Port Logan. For a day out, Belfast is easily accessible by ferry from Cairnryan. For stargazers, the UK’s Original Dark Sky Park is worth a visit.
The area teems with wildlife especially seabirds like the majestic gannet which dives in the bay for food and the graceful heron silently stalking the shallow water. Roe deer sprint across the fields; also hares and rabbits. In summer, unoccupied sheds and other spaces welcome the migrating swallows. Famed for its delicious mature cheese, the fields of the South Rhins, as the locality is called, are full of dairy cows and some farms keep the distinctive black and white Belted Galloway cattle.
